Editorial Review for Londonderry Cafe by Michele McCole Moss
The Scene
Londonderry's fancy storefront stands out even in restaurant-heavy Stuyvesant Plaza. A hunter-green sign beckons diners inside the pleasant maroon, pink and green dining room, where quiet conversation and reliable service prevail. After all, what do you expect from chef-owner, Ron Furan? He cooked for New York's governors for 10 years.
The Food
To start, Furan's raspberry coulis adds a wonderful sweetness to the warm Brie appetizer. Organic salad greens are tossed with house-made dressings. Pasta and steak entrees are reliable, and the excellent beef selections change nightly. The New Yorker pasta (roasted garlic and sun-dried tomato pasta in a creamy garlic sauce with prosciutto) will please even finicky taste buds. The gingernut salmon is a masterpiece of flaky fish crusted with hazelnut crumbs and topped with orange beurre blanc. The chicken jambalaya is good, but mild. Like it spicy? Just ask.
Sunday brunch is particularly nice in the warm weather, outside under one of the restaurant's green umbrellas.
Dinner Party DramasDon't know what to make for company? Londonberry's entire menu can be made for take-out.
